July 2012

I know its not the end of July yet, but i thought I'd write about what I've been up to seeing as I'll be away again when August hits.

1st July - 8th July: Benidorm
I went on a girls holiday for a week to Benidorm. Admittedly i was dreading it before i went, stuck with 7 other girls and in Benidorm was not my idea of fun. But i was pleasantly surprised by the holiday, it turned out to be good fun. We didn't do much in the days other than lie about on the beach or by the pool, and one day we went to Aqualandia where i tackled the MASSIVE water slides (something i am very proud of). And at night we would go out to the strip of bars where we were plied with free drinks and made numerous new friends. A lot of hangovers happened! All in all a good holiday.
The slides in Aqualandia. I conquered them all!

10th July - 12th July: York
Just after arriving back off holiday i had one full day to recover before having to hit the road again and go to York for my sisters graduation. It was a lovely couple of days away, surprisingly relaxing which is just what i wanted after such a busy week away before. Even if i did have to sit through an hour and half of names being read out...

Me and my sister at her graduation.

18th July - 23rd July: London
I went to London to visit my friend JS for a few days because it was her birthday. I had a thoroughly good time whilst i was there. We went to the Lakeside centre and did shopping, went out for her birthday, spent the next day horribly hungover, had a BBQ and went for a trip to see the sights in London. I also got to see my friend FH who also lives in London but had just returned from a month long trip to Indonesia.
Me being a tourist by the tower of London.

After all of this on the 29th July i am flying out to France to be met by my auntie and cousin to go to my grandmas holiday home out there for a few days of doing barely anything. Bliss.

June 2012

Boy, its been a while since I've been on here.

I'm now back in Derby, well i say back, all my stuff is here but I'm flitting about here there and everywhere. I thought I'd attempt to sum up June the best i can. This also helps my life get a bit more straight in my own head. I saw my last post was about the jubilee garden party which was on the 4th June so I'll go from there.

6th June - 13th June - Gran Canaria
As a family we went to Gran Canaria for the last proper family holiday. As me and my sister are getting older we have not been going on holiday with our parents as much and with my sister going travelling soon we thought it a good idea to have a big family holiday. It was lovely to spend time with them all, especially in such a beautiful place. My highlight of the holiday was definitely renting a car on my mums birthday and travelling around the island, seeing other cities and tourist spots.

18th June - 21st June
I went to visit my boyfriend in this time. I met him at uni but he lives right down south. It was a lovely visit especially as i had to do nothing, was a nice rest before being so busy.

24th June - Water world
Me, my friend DC and my sister Zoe went to water world for the day, simply because i love water parks. Me and my sister were intending on going when in Gran Canaria but we didn't have enough money for it so we found this to be the substitute. Was a relatively cheap day out as well because i joined a website called voucher cloud and they text you offers so we managed to get a 2 for 1 deal. Not too bad if i say so myself.

25th June - Alton Towers
My friend BL invited me to Alton towers with two of her friends, SF and WM. I was a little worried about going because i didn't know the other two very well, but it turned out to be a surprisingly good day. I manned up and went on most of the big rides including oblivion, air and nemesis. I was very proud of myself for this seeing as i am usually a massive wuss when it comes to rides like them. I had a well earned rest after that day.

26th June - 29th June - JS visiting
My friend from uni had told me that she wanted to come and visit Derby and the only time i had was this period of time. Thankfully she didn't mind that we didn't do too much because i was shattered after the last couple of days. I did show her the not many sights of Derby and she did seem to enjoy herself. I'm also glad that she got to meet some of my friends, as she is one of my best friends i like them to all come together and like one another. Whilst she was here we also went out for dinner with my sister at a little vegan restaurant that only holds about 12 people, but the food is yummy and well priced (a good thing seeing as all of us were students).

29th June - Olympic Torch
The Olympic torch passed through Derby on this day and i went to see it with my cousin FS-P and my friends PR and DC. Some people don't get the hype about it, and i have to say it wasn't the best thing i had ever seen but i do have to say it is a once in a lifetime event, i mean when will the Olympic torch go through my home town again. And for that reason i didn't want to miss it. I later went to the after events which included a parade and salsa dancing. It had a very Brazilian feel to it.

30th June - Laser Tag
It was my friend CH's birthday and because she doesn't drink she wanted to do something slightly different for her birthday. So she decided on a ninja theme. The plan was to go to laser tag and have 3 games and then go out with a list of things we had to get photos of and the whole thing would be a big competition. I only went to the laser tag part of the night because i was flying out to Spain in the early hours of the next day. Saying this though i had a lovely time and i also came 4th! Good for saying it was the first time i had ever gone to laser tag.

So, that's the majority of my June covered. As i say, i get very busy in the summer :)

Jubilee Garden Party

When invited to a jubilee garden party by my grandparents I didn’t think too much about what I was going to wear. Having only just arrived back home from university it was not at the top of my priorities. So when the moment arrived when I actually had to crawl out of bed and chose something there was only one dress I could think of. It is my old faithful. I bought this dress when I used to work at Next. I saw it one day behind a rack of other clothes and I hid it in the back store room to buy later on. Since then it has helped me through many an occasion. It can be worn both in summer and winter simply with a change of tights; it can be a casual dress to wear to the beach or a more formal affair for dinners out. An all rounder really. I know it’s not a very patriotic dress, not being red, white or blue, but this dress helped me through yet another occasion.

The other bits a bobs I was wearing wear very cheap items with I always wear with this dress. The belt is from H&M; only cost me about £6 and goes with everything. I really enjoy wearing a belt because of the hourglass figure I seem to be sporting. The shoes, which are slightly out of shot, are cheap ones from Primark that I bought when brogues were all the rage.
These things help most outfits and all in all didn’t cost very much. I got the dress with my Next discount (25% off), and the rest are simply cheap accessories.

The Spontaneous Nights Are The Best

I do enjoy a good spontaneous night out. Last night ones of these. Me and my friend JS and her friend that was visiting from home AS decided to go to a little pub down the road called 'The Cask', we knew it was open mic night there and a few people we know are regular performers. I took it as a very casual night and simple wore jeans, a baggy jumper, converse and had my hair up. I also vowed that i was not going to drink because of the 9am lecture i had the next morning. Yeah, that went a little bit to pot! Got there and the first thing i did was order a cider and black! 3 of them and 2 double archers later i could no longer deny that i was drunk. Yet the casual night turned out to be lovely. We all laughed so much and made friends with loads of new people (even if the friendships were made because of arguments over Ed Sheeran). Then from 'The Cask' it was on to 'Bacchus', our amazing local, where we danced and danced and danced until the lights came up. Then crawled into bed to get up at 8am and do it all over again :)

Dress Up Times

In my house we love a good themed night where it gives us the chance to go all out and look a little bit like idiots. For this occasion it was my friend FH's birthday with the theme of favourite flora and fauna. So, not doing this half arsed, i went as a lion.

That is me as a lion ^. Pretty good i think! Now for a run down of the outfit...
  • Hair - Backcombed to within an inch of its life - not fun to comb out the next day
  • Face - Yellow face paint that lasts forever and is only £3 and a good friend (JS) who is very creative and will willingly do all my makeup :)
  • T-shirt - Bought from a charity shop for £1.75. Is a size 16/18 but when tucked into a skirt it doesn't really matter
  • Skirt - Bought as a present from my friend RK for my birthday
  • Tights - Borrowed off FH. I later destroyed said tights and they are now in the bin
On the whole i think a good outfit for very little money. A little imagination is all that is needed.

Fashion Timesssss

I came to a bit of a block with what to write about in this blog. Not much has been happening recently that would be of much interest so i thought about doing a bit of fashion. I'm not completely up to date with latest trends and that but, as my sister has told me before, I'm not too bad at doing the student wardrobe thing and making something out of nothing. So here goes...

Saturday Night Out
As i do every Saturday i went out to the local bar called Bacchus, don't tend to venture in to town on a weekend because its a bit rough. Bacchus is an underground bar that looks a little like an old ladies front room, but it is possibly the friendliest place anyone could go.

This is what i wore ^^. The clothes i am actually wearing are not mine. I am quite fortunate that all my closest friends that i live with are the same or similar size to me so we do a lot of sharing. This play suit is from my neighbour JS which she kindly lent me. After going out every night last week i began to get stuck in a rut with my clothes, i got the feeling they had all been overused and felt it time for a change, and that is where JS came in.

26th January - A little catch up

It's been a while since i wrote on here so thought it be best to fill in on what I've been up to since the new year.

I had a trip to London to visit some Uni friends and had a thoroughly lovely time. We spent the first day there shopping in Ilford and then going out to a free gig in Hoxton in the evening. Being students and all we tried to find as much free stuff to do as possible. The next day we then went to the natural history museum which i have never been to before, and found it fascinating! Not only that but it is such a lovely building as well, i would recommend if going for nothing else, go for the architecture.

A couple of days after returning from London, i made my way back up to Scarborough for the start of the new semester. It was lovely to see all my Uni friends again, i didn't think i would miss them quite as much as i did. But i wasn't back in Scarborough for long though, having only one exam on the first day of the two week exam period meant that i was going to be very bored for two weeks whilst everyone was revising, so i did a bit of a tour visiting some friends at their universities because they are all pretty close to one another.

I started in Nottingham where it was a very casual couple of days with lots of eating out and having chilled out drinks in the student union bar. I then moved on the Leicester with the friend i visited in Nottingham and that was a little more intense. When we arrived we went to a lovely pub lunch and then headed back to the halls my friend was staying in, to have a nap and then get ready for a night out. It was one of her flatmates birthdays so the entire flat was going out. We went to their student union, which is nothing like the one back in Scarborough. Ours is thoroughly a little bar whereas theres is a massive nightclub. It was a lovely night though as it was indie night and i knew all the music :)

So that's me pretty much filled in. Hope you all had a nice Christmas and New Year!
